Milford Regional Medical Center is a full-service, community and regional teaching hospital located in Milford, Mass. and serves patients from more than 20 towns in Central Massachusetts. Statement of Purpose:
The Substance Abuse Clinician must work under the direction of the Manager of Behavioral Health. The Substance Abuse Clinician will assess and provide substance abuse assessments in the Emergency Department or on the inpatient unit with accompanying inpatient, outpatient, addiction, or step-down referrals for patients and families. The SA Clinician is responsible for completing assessments, as well as utilizing communication skills to seek information as necessary from providers, community mental health organizations, and families to best serve our patients, and which will enable the SA Clinician to identify problems related to the total well-being of the patient.  The SA Clinician acts as the liaison between medical staff, Substance Abuse Counselor/Recovery Coach (SAC/RC), community resources, and the patient and their family.  The SA Clinician will be responsible for working with Emergency department and inpatient staff to create, educate and implement substance abuse referrals, treatment modules, and evaluations for patients presenting with substance use disorder or alcohol dependence concerns.   

The SA Clinician must have knowledge of community substance abuse resources, addictions treatment, SUDE and SBIRT knowledge, and the ability to work with state agencies such as DMH and DCF to ensure favorable patient dispositions.  The ability to work efficiently, have great patient interaction skills, in-depth clinical interviewing practices, and a sense of urgency are a must. The SA Clinician will also work under the BH Manager (LICSW) to ensure appropriate billing practices are met. 

Qualifications:

Education: 
Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program required 
Note: This position will be credentialed under the Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) Medical   Staff bylaws. 

Certification/License: Massachusetts licensed social worker (LCSW) required

Experience: 
3 plus years’ experience working in substance abuse & behavioral health
Working knowledge of community substance abuse & mental health care and an understanding of ESPs
Knowledge of addiction treatment resources
Demonstrated knowledge of working with various state agencies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island 
Able to communicate in a concise, calm manner
Demonstrated ability to employ and maintain a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
