
Spanish Medical Interpreter
Milford, MA40hrs, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. M-F no weekend, no holidays
Statement of Purpose:
Provides medical and general interpreting and/or translating for health care providers and for patients and their families in the hospital and/or home care setting. Acts as a consultant to staff to advocate for non-English speaking patients/families when appropriate. Assesses and monitors patient’s understanding of information conveyed and keeps health care providers informed as to the level of that understanding. Documents services as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree preferred.
Successful completion of Medical Interpreter Training Course; 54-hour course preferred.
Certification / License:
National Certification required or to be obtained within three years of hire.
Experience:
Excellence and fluency in spanish language and English languages, both spoken and written.
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter.
Strong bilingual interpersonal skills with a high level of customer service.
Experience working with diverse cultural/socio-economic backgrounds and understanding of a variety of linguistic styles and/or registers.
Ability to function independently, possess good judgment, and remain calm in emergency situations.
Excellent organizational skills, the ability to set priorities, and problem-solving skills are a must.
Ability to provide support at outpatient locations during the day when required to do so.
