Milford, MATransition to Practice Orientation Program for Newly Licensed Nurses (NLN's)
Milford Regional Medical Center offers the perfect supportive environment for NLNs to begin their careers in nursing! Our Transition to Practice Orientation Program will assist NLNs to continue their professional growth and development under the guidance of both our nursing education and leadership teams.
We require NLNs to commit to 32-40 hours/wk for the first four weeksof orientation depending on the area of practice. Beginning in the first 3 months and extending beyond, NLNs will complete specialized courses in dysrhythmia interpretation, acute care nursing, and as appropriate to the specialty, advanced life support (ACLS), pediatric life support (PALS) and neonatal resuscitation (NRP).
In addition, two other key components of our program include:
Clinical Connections - Each NLN will have a Staff Education advisor assigned to them for periodic check-ins in clinical practice.
Professional Development Days – All NLNs will gather together on a regular basis for days of networking, emotional support, team building and to address topics essential to continued growth and development. A sample of topics includes: wound/skin care, end of life care, oxygen delivery systems, time management, diversity in healthcare, patient & family communications and service recovery.
